Heather Gardens is not just a garden store – we’re a true nursery. The majority of the plants we offer are grown right here in our Martha’s Vineyard greenhouses. It’s part of what makes our plants faster growing and healthier than many of their off-island “look-a-likes.” Weekly, starting in late winter, the planting begins. Depending on the time of year, we start either seeds or cuttings in our climate controlled greenhouses. From that moment on, our plants get constant care. We baby our babies! Did you know that seedlings will die if they miss just one 6-hour watering cycle. |

Our seedlings are nurtured in a clean, healthy environment which limits the chance of pest infestation. Using the only Biotherm seeding and germinating machine on the Island, our plants are accustomed to growing super-fast from their very first days. |

| After about a month, our
plants have grown strong and are well adjusted to the Island climate.
Now, they’re ready to move out of the cold frames and over to
our bench areas where they are waiting for you to take them home. |
